Polaroid camera review
I thought i'd start with something i'm passionate about, photography. I own a few cameras and plan to continue to expand my collection when i have enough money to.
One of my favourite cameras in my collection is my 'Polaroid 600 Land Camera' (Onestep 600). I bought it around a year ago on eBay for a bargain price of only £20.00! It is made of the typical Polaroid plastic and is relatively lightweight and durable. The camera itself is quite large and bulky so is a bit awkward to transport but will fit most DSLR camera bags. It produces fantastic photos and the iconic Polaroid border makes them extra special. The main drawbacks of the camera are that the film for the photos is, in my opinion, incredibly expensive at around £20.00 including post and packaging, and that's only for 8 photos, but the film is very specialized as not only does it develop itself, but it contains the battery required to power the camera. As most of you will know Polaroid is no longer producing film and so you can only buy it from a specialized supplier called 'The Impossible Project' (i'll put a link at the bottom). They are a great company as they produce all the different types of film for the various Polaroid models and have also created film with different coloured borders if white isn't exciting enough for you, but as i said the film is particularly pricey. The second problem with this camera is that the quality of the photos that it produces can be quite variable but it is quite old and truthfully i think the little quirks on the pictures make them more interesting. The photos take around 25 minutes to develop but the time can vary and they need to be stored in a dark place while they do, I normally just slip mine into my camera bag for a bit. Buying a Polaroid camera off of a sight such as eBay or in a charity shop is slightly risky, as there is no guarantee that it will work but you could save yourself a lot of money as refurbished models can sell for hundreds.
I would definitely recommend investing in a Polaroid if you enjoy photography but prepare for the possibility that the camera that you buy may not function properly.
